Five Unique Hacks for a High-Performing Work Day

Five Unique Hacks for a High-Performing Work Day

Meetings, deadlines and zoom technical difficulties. Each work day requires a high level of energy & focus to keep us operating at 100%. But sometimes, we all need an extra kick to keep us sane and powering through. This week, we’re breaking down five unique hacks for a high-performing work day.

Start your morning with a cold shower 🚿

While we totally agree there’s nothing better than a hot shower, it actually does the opposite of energising you.  As you step out of a warm shower into a cold room, the quick drop in body temperature signals your body it’s time for bed - leaving you feeling sleepy. Cold showers do the job of waking your body up and inducing a higher state of alertness. The cold also stimulates you to take deeper breaths, decreasing the level of CO2 throughout the body, helping you stay energised and focused throughout the day.

Smell for energy 🌹

While a good cologne or perfume can help you feel fresh AF, this isn’t what we’re talking about here. The power of aromatherapy is real, with a range of scientific studies showing the extensive health benefits of essential oils. If you’re looking for a pick me up, Lavender is a great natural energiser with mood-enhancing properties (and it smells good). Simply keep some on your desk and you’re good to go!

Surround yourself with colours that energise ⚡

Need an excuse to upgrade your desk setup? Here’s your sign. Colours can play an important role in conveying information nonverbally, creating certain moods, and even influencing the decisions people make. Surrounding yourself with vibrant colours such as red, orange and yellow can have an energy-boosting, motivating effect on the body & those around you. Try this tip out by adding some vibrant colours to your surroundings!

Let there be light 🌞

You know how they say you’re a product of your environment? It’s true! Your work environment plays a huge role in the body’s energy cycles throughout the work day. Regular exposure to natural light has been shown to improve energy levels & enhance your overall mood. If you’re working in a windowless space, make the time to step out for some sunlight therapy every hour. Your body & brain will love you for it!

Coffee ☕

If you're sipping on a coffee while you're reading this, then you're off to a great start! While we're probably preaching to the choir here, it would be rude not to mention that caffeine can also play an important role in your daily performance and has been linked to improved mood & energy levels and various aspects of brain function.
