Boston Freestone - Holistic Performance Coach

We are stoked to introduce our INCREDIBLE Holistic Performance Athlete and Coach; Boston Freestone. With a Masters of Sports and Exercise Physiology, an accredited sports nutritionist and performance coach, Boston has a wealth of knowledge both in and out of the gym!

Get to know what makes Boston tick, what drives and motivates him to do what he does and what advice he would give others to help level up 🚀💪🏼

Who or what inspired you to get involved in the health and fitness coaching industry, with a holistic approach? 🌱

My Grandmother and Mum. They always encouraged me to consume wholefoods and exercise regularly – especially my Mum as she owned a health food shop and her dad was a champion heavyweight boxer in NZ. I guess they taught me holistic principles before the concept was popularised.

Having studied a Masters of Sports & Exercise Physiology, what’s one thing you learnt that blew you away and think others should know about? 💪🏼

That’s difficult to specify one. So, here’s three 😊

  • Exercise, independent of anything that happens to your body weight, and you will be healthier. Exercise is one of the only things that will improve your biomarkers of health without even losing weight (i.e., improved insulin sensitivity, reduced inflammation).
  • Strength training and cardiovascular conditioning is the best thing you can do to maintain a healthy neuromuscular system, enhance cognitive function, cardiovascular & immune health and reduce inflammation.
  • You need to rest as hard as you train. As you can’t shoot another bullet (perform) until you have reloaded the gun (restored).

What’s your number one tip for staying disciplined and focused on achieving your goals? 📈

Cultivate confidence by remembering what you have done, positive self-talk in the present and imagining where you want to be.

I also live by this equation – action leads to motivation which leads to inspiration. Rinse and repeat = discipline.

Do you have an interesting fact about yourself that would surprise people to learn about you? 🤭

Health changed my life; I lost 16 kg when I was 14 years old and I remember telling myself if I can actually pull this off anyone can.

Tell us about the moment in your life so far that’s made you the proudest? 👏🏻

Likely achieving a distinction in the MSc. I was living in London by myself and went through six months of lockdown, I tore my medial meniscus and had knee surgery during the lockdown, I had recently split up with my previous partner, and I got covid all whilst completing my thesis in corticospinal excitability during explosive isometric contractions. The pressure was intense to go through alone but I came out better.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone starting their journey to bettering themselves, whether that be with fitness, nutrition or their career, what would it be? ⚡️

Start and learn to love failure, it will take you places as the obstacles are the way.

And last but not least, what’s your go to Beforeyouspeak brew?! ☕️

AHHH all of them. Performance Caramel as I am currently sipping on it, but my old time favourite is the Collagen Mocha.
